According to the Bangalore Traffic Police accident statistics, the number of accidents in Bangalore (as on 30th nov 2010) is at the lowest compared to the data for the last 10 years. Well, it only shows that Bangalore have become responsible in terms of their driving. But the number of fatal accidents hasn’t dropped and continues to be at the same rate.
The New Year ’s Eve see’s a sharp rise in road accidents every year. Reason is quite obvious, drunken driving, irresponsible driving and over speeding. Even innocent pedestrians are at risk. While its good to party on the last day of the year, It doesn’t hurt to be conscious and responsible.
Here are a few pointers to help you party responsibly:
1. Book your party tickets in advance and not on the same day or the previous day. Bangalore is spoilt with options. Take your pick.
2. If you havnt booked a place in any of the party clubs and plan to go hunting for a place, don’t kid yourself. Chances are high that you won’t get a ticket on that night; there are hundreds of people doing the same. The best place to party is at Home. Stock up on food and drinks, pool in a bunch of friends and party.
3. At home or outside, avoid drinking on an empty stomach. Eat something light before you start.
4. If partying out, car pool and get a non drinker to volunteer to drive. Hire a driver if you must, and instruct them strictly about not drinking.
5. Everyone has their own definition to having fun, so if your non drinking friend is enjoying a fruit juice or a mock tail, don’t brand them as boring and force him/her to drink. Respect their choice and make it a fun party for all.
6. Know your limit: Know how many drinks you can have before losing control and limit yourself to one less than that. If you plan on losing control, let your non – drinker friend know and ask if they can handle you. Girls, drink only when you are with trusted company.
7. Don’t just drink, eat. Make sure you eat something along while sipping your drink; it slows down the alcohol absorption.
8. Parties are meant to make and not mar relationships. So avoid and discourage your friends from getting into a drunken brawl.
9. The speed limit inside Bangalore city is 50kms/hr for LMV and 40kms/hr for HMV, stick to it. (no kidding, we are serious)
10. Avoid jay walking and stay alert while walking on the road. You don’t want to be the victim of someone else’s drunken driving.
If you have kept all this in mind and planed well, relax, have fun and welcome the New Year with a party worth remembering.
