Modak - Organic Vegetarian Restaurant

Newspaper is still one of the most effective form of media when it comes to publicity and advertisements. The local newspaper distributors add advertisement leaflets to make a few extra bucks and the advertiser gets targeted local publicity.  During the time of Ganesh Chaturti, a little leaflet sporting a picture of Ganesha made of broccoli caught my attention. It was from Modak, organic vegetarian restaurant. What made it more interesting is that there was an exhibition of more than 1000 Ganesha’s till the end of September.

Modak is a little terrace restaurant on the top floor of Hotel Aspasia. It’s a pleasant ambience even in the heat of the mid day. The weekend lunch buffet cost us about 360/- for two. For starters there was a tomato soup, vegetable salad (carrots, cucumber and tomatoes), lentil salad with grated coconut and some fried potatoes.  I must say I enjoyed the starters and got myself a second helping.

The main course had poori’s, potato curry, pongal, channa masala, vegetable pulao, brown rice and rasam. Well, unfortunately I am not fond of any of these, so I just picked on some brown rice and channa masala which tasted pretty descent (Could be better). There was also curd rice made of brown rice which was a pleasant surprise.

The best part was the desserts, 4 types of Modaks, gulab jamun and lovely lovely mango ice cream. All in all, it was a good experience, wouldn’t say good value for money, the food can definitely get better.

The Ganesha Exhibition was definitely a treat. Overall I would give the place a three out of five.
